My Journey: From Childhood to Tomahawk Internet Technologies

Hi, I’m Peter Rohrman, the founder of Tomahawk Internet Technologies. My story begins in the 1980s, growing up as a latchkey kid in Carlstadt, NJ, a small town where hard work, self-reliance, and grit were essential. Those early years shaped my work ethic and drive to overcome challenges.

From Marine Infantryman to Technology Leader

In 1989, I joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where I served as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant. During my time in the Marines, I learned invaluable leadership skills, accountability, and the importance of discipline. I was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in 1991 and later to Sergeant in 1994. I also served during Operation Desert Storm and received the National Defense Medal in 1991.

After my service, I decided to pursue a career in technology, which had always fascinated me. I worked my way through college at Rutgers University and NJIT, majoring in Computer Science. Balancing school with work, I held various roles in tech companies, where I gained hands-on experience that helped me rise through the ranks in the tech industry.

From Front-Line Support to CTO

My career took off in the mid-1990s when I joined International Discount Telecommunications as a Sr. Remote Access Engineer, managing national ISP services. Over the years, I worked in various network engineering and operations roles, climbing the ranks from Network Operations Center Manager to Chief Technology Officer (Acting) at Stage2 Networks.

Along the way, I built strong expertise in network architecture, operations, and VoIP systems, especially with HPBX VoIP providers. I spent nearly 20 years working at leading tech companies like Interoute Communications, Band-X, InterNAP, and Everest Broadband Networks, where I managed global operations, engineering teams, and built cutting-edge communications infrastructure.

Starting Tomahawk Internet Technologies

In 2023, I decided to take everything I had learned and create something truly impactful — Tomahawk Internet Technologies. Our mission is to help small and mid-sized businesses reduce their expenses by providing cutting-edge VoIP solutions and network engineering services. I realized that many businesses could benefit from the same advanced technology solutions used by large enterprises, but at an affordable price.

At Tomahawk, we offer personalized solutions to help businesses own their phone systems, eliminate expensive contracts, and reduce their communication costs while maintaining full control over their infrastructure. We’re committed to helping our clients succeed in their respective markets by providing reliable, cost-effective solutions that align with their needs.

How We Got Our Name

The name Tomahawk has a personal meaning for me. It comes from a childhood memory of spending time with my father, Ben Rohrman, who owned and managed a local softball team called "The Tomahawks" in the 1960s through the early 1980s. Every Sunday, my dad would take me and my sisters to Lindberg Field to watch the games. My older brother, Michael, who is 9 years older than me, played for the team. These games were more than just sports to me; they were a cherished family tradition.

Sadly, my father passed away before I was old enough to play on his team, as it was a men’s league (18+). But I’ll never forget those Sunday mornings at the ballpark, watching the games with my dad. Starting Tomahawk Internet Technologies is my way of honoring the time I spent with my father during those childhood years. The name reminds me of the dedication, teamwork, and passion that defined those days with my family, and it motivates me to help small businesses thrive just as my father helped lead his team.
